It appears from 3750 that Colonial expenditure has been incurred in connection with the occupation of Sham Shui; our expenditure, that is beyond the vote referred to in the present despatch. I had assumed from 15533/99 that considerable Colonial expenditure had been involved, but that our tel. of 13 June (on 14680) to which 15533 was a reply, referred to expenditure incurred in consequence of likely resistance by Chinese, e.g. as in latter part of that tel., resistance explained, to occupation of leased territory. We are still without particulars explaining the figs in the tel. 15533 since the printed
